Is the iPhone really the Best?

Is the iPhone really the Best?

‘Is iPhone really the best around? This is the question a friend asked me and knowing the type of person he is, I really could not give a direct answer. Staying on the side of iPhone or against it will bring a series of other questions till he drags you into a heated argument. That is how he likes to pass a message across; he acts like he has a question but he actually wants to share his opinion. So knowing him, I refused to answer but decided to ask other people because my friend’s question kind of got stuck in my head. He has a way of always trying to force his way through. There was a time he took me all the way to his favourite shop to buy Ascis Nimbus when I could easily have bought the same thing just five minutes-walk away from my flat.

It was discovered through various online searches and inquiries that a large number of people do not really know which phone is the best or which phone is not really good. The responses were kind of surprising just like it was quite a revelation to find out that most people who use iPhones are those who really cannot afford it. A number of people use the iPhone not necessarily because they did any survey to find out how suitable or good it is; they just bought it because they felt it was in vogue or because their friends have it. It was hard to find a response that categorically claimed that the iPhone was the best. Most people don’t really know as they just go for it to blend with the current trend or because of some of its facilities. A friend remarked; ‘that question is not meant to be answered by us’. He concludes that you buy because you like.

Nokia N8

Nokia N8

Nokia has made a leap into the touch market with the N8. How does it do? Well its way off compared to iPhone or HTC’s but i’d actually not compared them. Nokia uses Symbian 3, which iPhone and HTC don’t, hence its going to function differently. By this I don’t mean quality wise, its a good phone no doubt, but the flexibility that one gets from on iPhone or an HTC is greater compared to the Nokia. While the only thing that Symbian does is copy and paste the same template (that includes icon designs and layout) and then just add a touch screen integration.
That’s not a very impressive start. What they should have done is carry out an overhaul, but besides the the little changes in layout, the Nokia just feels like the same old Nokia. A couple of good things is that this is sold separately as an unlocked phone, hence perfect for the frequent traveler. Its got a 12 megapixel camera from which you shoot a movie, no problems there. The touch screen is responsive, the outer casing is sturdy and well made, it has a micro HDMI port (which includes the adapter in the package). It also has the usual mobile broadband and sat nav (for 70 countries -paid subscription) as well as the OVI store (which is updating its store quite frequently with cool stuff).
I liked the phone but Nokia is like a Porsche, all they do make the car faster but they all look the same, no doubt their built well but comeon already, your customers need something new.

World in your pocket

World in your pocket

It never ceases to amaze me how much mobile phone technology has moved on in the short time that it has been commonplace to see guys on the street with a handset glue to their ears. They started off brick-sized, only able to make calls and only then when you were a few centimeters away from the very basic mobile phone masts!
Time moved on a little and the concept of playing games on your handset arrived. OK, at first it was just that ridiculously addictive ’Snake” or maybe a free solitaire game, but now mobiles are practically mini games consoles - and the downloadable games business means big money for developers and mobile phone companies. Just think about ’Angry Birds’, the iPhone game sensation. Not only are they now developing a version for the big boy consoles, but there are even plans to make a feature-length cartoon movie starring the characters!! All from a mobile phone game…
About the same time that ’Snake'burst - well, crawled - onto the scene, another revolutionary change was happening to our mobile phones, the way we communicate and, in fact, our society as a whole. Hands up if you can’t remember how we ever got anything done or managed to meet up with any friends before texting came along? It is such an integral part of all of our daily routines that it is difficult to remember life BT (Before Texting) and even more hard to imagine how it will ever be replaced in the AT (After Texting) age. Perhaps a day will come when voice recognition software will have advanced enough that we can spare our aching thumbs. Or, my personal dream, a kinetic communication device that uses your brain waves to send messages to others depending on how you think. Fair enough, we’re a long way off that at the moment, but I managed to make a ping pong ball move with my brain at the Glasgow Science Museum, so anything could be possible!

GM and Smartcars

GM and Smartcars

Smartphones are the technological device that conquered the modern day technology world. Consumers all over the world have boosted the demand of smart devices with more that 2000% percent in the last 10 years and the technological world is experiencing a boom in the availability of smart devices. What now might become another technological sensation is the plan of GM to incorporate advanced smart communication technology in its cars of a new generation.
OnStar is the department within General Motors that researches the possibilities of developing technology for advanced communication within the vehicles of the company that are to be produced in the future. The researchers with General Motors have shown some pretty satisfactory data that the consumers in the US might be quite interested in the idea. In addition to phone communications, advanced GPS communication and multimedia packs, the GM cars would be equipped advanced 3G technology that would allow internet use. the internet might be particularly important for people on the way, GM reveals, and would allow the use of business applications during long runs.
In competition to OnStar, Ford and Hyundai are also rapidly developing plans of transforming their cars into 2-ton smartphones. Users nowadays are reported to demand more and more services from their vehicles and to efficiently respond to such requirements, especially in the US, is by developing innovative means of communication. If successfully incorporated, smart control of internet in car vehicles might be the next step towards a complete modernisation of transportation and communication technology. This might also increase the worldwide roaming plans availability as communication means would be incorporated for the use of people travelling on the roads.

Laser Powered Technology

Laser Powered Technology

The increase of the demand of technological products has become a certain sphere of development that needs constant attention as new products become more and more required by the general consumer and the specialised companies that require improvements and modernisation. Recently, a revolutionary technology has been redeveloped and tested as a reliable promising to both decrease energy use and increase efficiency.
The approach is a remotely powered devices by laser power. Even companies like Enigin might soon put it into their energy saving plans that might enhance the industry. The method is working on a clearly simplified principle - a power bean receiving energy is installed into the device that is going to be remotely powered. A laser source of power directs a strong energy shot into the beam thus causing a chemical reaction into it that both generates and absorbs laser energy.
The project has been long developed by scientists from NASA and now the people from Ascending Technologies in Germany are developing the same approach with a larger rate of efficiency. Their tests and experiments conclude that such a major project can be easily supported with the correct technology. Their tests were conducted on a mini robot - drone that was fliying for a whole night being powered by the lase power technology. Such development might significantly increase the power efficiency of devices requiring constant power to function. For example, space satelites and shuttles are the perfect candidate for the application of the method because they operate in the space and their constant energy demand is supplied by exhaustable resources. However, being controlled from the Earth, the power supply by laser power would mean less effort for maintaining these devices, longer functioning of their equipment and less energy used as a whole.

The all new Macbook from Apple is worth buying. Macbooks have excellent aesthetic features making them more attractive for the new buyers. It is space efficient and also stylish in its looks. If you are a kind of person who desires stylish laptops which compliments your style then you should opt for Apple Macbook without a second thought in mind. Despite the feather like weight and slender appearance the sturdy built makes it quite a robust design. The casing which is made from durable poly carbonate makes its handling easy for day to day activities. The non slippery finish gives the MacBook a stable and, at the same time, seamless handling.

Even the specs look quite impressing. Just a little glimpse into the engineering of this piece of hardware will give you enough reasons to say yes to a lucrative deal. The ergonomics are quite neat. The idea of an integrated battery has helped them to make it sleeker. Even the default battery will pack in at least 7 hours of use after a complete charge. The extensive integration and squeezing does not give away the ability to upgrade. The display is another thing, which anyone will fall for.

And when we finally come to the performance part, things are quite big. This beast packs in an Intel 2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo processor and an impressive NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics wit 2 GB of RAM. Even the hard disk capacity is a huge 250 GB as a standard set of feature.

With all these, specs, performance, ergonomics and looks it’s hard for many to resist the temptation of owing an Apple, and sometimes brand does matter!

Segway Electric Personal Transporter Review

Segway Electric Personal Transporter Review

Probably one of the most popular invention over the last ten years has been the Segway. The new version, the Segway PT, now offers users more than the its predecessors.

The Segway PT (personal transporter) is electricity run and self balancing vehicle. The transport was invented by Dean Kamen and was launched late in 2001. The production for public selling started in 2002.

The vehicle is computerized and has hi-tech motors to make the riding smooth and hazard free. When the rider leans forward the PTY moves forward and with a backward leaning rider, the PT moves backwards. It has got a lean steer which helps riders to turn left or right.

When it comes to the Segway PT, you can rely on the technologies used in the vehicle. These vehicles are safe to ride and easy to maintain. They are also environment friendly in a way that you do need to burn any fuel to run them as they run on electricity. The tires of these vehicles are scratch resistant and thereby very long lasting.

If you have a big office compound or a big house, you can use the PT to move from one place to another. You will find the amusement parks and open and big places have the largest use of these vehicles. Though normally used indoors, these PTs can be very effective and reliable even in outdoors.

The price of this Segway PT at any shop display can be a set back as it is a bit on the higher side. Another problem with these vehicles is the availability of it. You will not find these transports everywhere in the world. You might buy it from some place and take it everywhere you go but there are still many countries where these vehicles are not yet permitted.

Robots

We all have seen them in movies, on TV and we have read about them in the sci-fi books. But are robots just a fiction? Will they really become so advanced that they are going to be able to do the thing we, the humans, do or even more.

Robotics has originated way back in time. It is used as a word for any mechanical construction that is doing a certain task without human interference. But this is too broad. Robotics or Human like robots are going to be the focus of the following discussion.

Robots are human like machines that are built to mimic the human movements and even emotions. 10 years ago Honda built the first human like robot. It was a massive hit. The robot was able to walk and talk with those around him. For that time this was really phenomenal. Nowadays robots are far more advanced. Not only they can walk and talk, but they can sit, walk up and down stairs, smile and they are even able to catch your mood. This means that today it is possible for a person to have a relatively sensible conversation with a machine.

However the purpose of most robots is not to show off their fancy lights and impressive features. The main vision of robotics is a future where people will not do dangerous jobs. They will not be forced to work under the surface in mines and in dark tunnels. No human life will be put at danger. Robots will be able to assist old people, disabled people, people who require special treatment.

And I am sure that in a few decades all of the transportation will be supervised by robots. So car accidents and road kills will be only a bad memory. And you will probably be able to buy one from Currys and even use some currys.co.uk discount vouchers to get two for the price of one.

But one question remains: Are the robots just going to serve us like some obedient slaves? If you have seen the movie iRobot you know that robots can advance to a level where they don’t need humans. The future remains is unclear.

What the future is going to be like

What the future is going to be like

It is strange to think about the future. Most of all it is strange, because not all of the people can imagine what it could be like. Some 30 years ago it was quite popular for people to express their view publicly. Especially, in the US. If you get hold of some scientific magazines from that time it will be truly fascinating as you go through them and see what the American people thought today will be like.

Nevertheless, in the past five years it looks like the human technological advancement is thriving. Not so long ago we used notebooks to write down stuff. Now we use touch screen devices. Everything is operated by touch. Sooner or later we will forget how to write by hand.

I remember the days when I was a high school student. Most of my friends had not even an idea about the cheap laptops, that now you can buy for less than £200 with argos discount vouchers. They were something like fiction that you see only in the movies. We were happy with our, pretty basic in nowadays terms, mobile phones that had monochrome displays and their most important function was the polyphonic ring tone. We used to call each other on the landline and most of the time our meeting were happening outside in the nearest park. I even remember how we used to play hide and seek. Yes, Good times.

And now, in 21st century everything is different. We use online social networks to interact with our peers and most of the time we prefer messaging than talking. Because, talking, is too much of an effort.

Now on every desk, home or office, there is at least one computer. I even know people that have more than 3 on theirs. So many folks tent to live their lives “online”, and that this is a bit disturbing.

Instead of playing with your friends outside or take the field, you sit in front of a big TV and play video games.

Does this fell right to you? And even though technology has brought numerous positive things, we need to form some boundaries.
