How would we live without social networks?

March 5th, 2012

In today’s world it is hard to go more than a few hours without hearing or seeing reference to Twitter, Facebook or some other social networking site, as it has now become part of modern culture. What started off as a tool for friends to keep in touch and up to date on what was going on in each others lives has now become so much more than that, and it is hard to see what we would all be doing with our time if we did not have these things to keep us occupied.

It is not only part of our personal lives, but for many is now part of work life too. Interactive marketing is something which has seen a huge development in recent years, and part of this has been down to the popularity of social networking sites. There are not many other places on the internet where so many people are accessible in one place and at not cost, and this is a dream for marketing purposes. Many companies in fact spend money employing people to run their Facebook site for them as the interest and potential income generated by having a large, active page is huge. Many companies are reliant on this traffic for business now, and if all of these sites were to close down tomorrow, profits would suffer.

It has got to the stage now, where these sites are being regularly mentioned in mainstream media programs and films, and this is always something that marks down a particular craze or fad in history. You all know what it is like when you watch an old film and they make mention of something that was popular at the time. I wonder if these sites will be looked upon in the same way, as they have become a fad of the past?

It seems difficult to comprehend that there will not always be something in operation now that plays the role of Twitter and Facebook. No doubt these two companies will fall by the wayside (as Myspace has done) as other new ideas are brought into being, but I feel quite sure that the concept of the social network is here to stay. It seems as if it has become too valuable for people and businesses alike to live without now, even small individual businesses such as boiler repairs hammersmith, will find social networking vital to their overall sucess.
