So, you thought you’d never see flying cars become a reality during the course of your life? It might be time to guess again as not only are the things becoming less of an elaborate dream every day, but one has also managed to make its way to April’s International Auto Show in New York City. With its appropriately futuristic name the Terrafugia Transition is more of a two seater aircraft than a car, though does have the regulation four wheels and light clusters front and back. For a number of years now, the Massachusetts-based brains behind the vehicle have been marketing it as a “roadable aircraft” which in a sense is the exact opposite though exactly the same as a “flying car.”…and you thought your state of the art recruitment software was advanced technology! The company has been around for ages now and has largely confined its services to general aviation, though given the number of customers who have already offered over a cool $279,000 to take home their latest creation, they’ve obviously seen there is a market gap out there waiting to be filled.

A big one!Deposits have been flying in…if you’ll ignore the pun…from people without any flying experience, basically confirming that drivers in huge numbers are ready to hit the skies. So, they headed to New York to grant the world a good look at the vehicle itself, though of course were not able to deliver a realistic demonstration. The cruising speed of the flying car is said to be just over 100mph, so it’s technically faster than most cars given that it will take you from A to B in a straight line. On the other hand, it’s quite a deal slower than similar private light aircraft which in most cases will sell for a good $100,000 cheaper.

And therein lies the problem, at the moment the very best flying car the world has is not really an amazing car or an amazing plane, but rather a modest stopgap between the two. That being said, for those that are more interested in bragging rights and the novelty alone – of which there are of course millions – anything like the Terrefugia is bound to be a hit. True, the very notion brings to mind a million and one issues regarding how exactly a driver would learn to fly one these, who’d be in charge of the air traffic control and who on Earth would be willing to insure you!! Still, all concerns for another day…let the future begin!

In today’s world it is hard to go more than a few hours without hearing or seeing reference to Twitter, Facebook or some other social networking site, as it has now become part of modern culture. What started off as a tool for friends to keep in touch and up to date on what was going on in each others lives has now become so much more than that, and it is hard to see what we would all be doing with our time if we did not have these things to keep us occupied.

It is not only part of our personal lives, but for many is now part of work life too. Interactive marketing is something which has seen a huge development in recent years, and part of this has been down to the popularity of social networking sites. There are not many other places on the internet where so many people are accessible in one place and at not cost, and this is a dream for marketing purposes. Many companies in fact spend money employing people to run their Facebook site for them as the interest and potential income generated by having a large, active page is huge. Many companies are reliant on this traffic for business now, and if all of these sites were to close down tomorrow, profits would suffer.

It has got to the stage now, where these sites are being regularly mentioned in mainstream media programs and films, and this is always something that marks down a particular craze or fad in history. You all know what it is like when you watch an old film and they make mention of something that was popular at the time. I wonder if these sites will be looked upon in the same way, as they have become a fad of the past?

It seems difficult to comprehend that there will not always be something in operation now that plays the role of Twitter and Facebook. No doubt these two companies will fall by the wayside (as Myspace has done) as other new ideas are brought into being, but I feel quite sure that the concept of the social network is here to stay. It seems as if it has become too valuable for people and businesses alike to live without now, even small individual businesses such as boiler repairs hammersmith, will find social networking vital to their overall sucess.

Thirty-five years ago I remember being totally wowed by a gadget I saw in ‘Star Wars’. And if you can recall that scene in the interplanetary bar (with all of the different creatures drinking their beer), then you will probably already know what I am going to say. Yes, the thing that blew me away was the holographic chess game with its animated pieces! Just imagine how cool it would be if you had one of these babies in your front room…

Of course, it’s still impossible for us to find one of these gadgets in our local branch of PC World… but just how much longer will it be before we can? After all, it’s not so many years ago when most people would have scoffed at the idea of 3D TV!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

However, the biggest problem with inventing a holographic chess set is the limitations of the human eye. And that is why we can only see 3D pictures (still or moving) by learning to use our eyes in conjunction with one other. Modern 3D spectacles may no longer have two different coloured lenses, but they still work on exactly the same principle; basically, they fool the brain into thinking it is seeing more than it actually is.

Now, I’m no expert on sight or ‘ visual data integration ’… Although I do understand that 3D technology cannot go much further until someone finds a system which does not require its users to wear glasses. And when that does finally happen (which I am wholly sure it will), there will be some very exciting times ahead!<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

So, the next time that ‘Star Wars'is on the TV, pay special attention to that brilliant scene in the intergalactic pub. Because holographic chess sets may very well be available on our supermarkets'shelves in the not so distant future!

Someone rightly said that the technological developments in the last 50 years have been many times more than the rest of the known civilization put together. I am quite happy to have been born in this age. All these developments have made life so much easier! But then, like all things, this too has a flip side. While I enjoy the ease these developments bring to my life, I miss the personal touch. I miss seeing people, I miss interacting with them, I miss the human touch that seems to be so rare now.

A swipe card opens the door for me; there is no doorman to greet me with a warm smile. My colleagues work real time providing and analysing data for gas companies. They barely acknowledge my presence as seconds make a world of difference. I suspect I act like them too. At home, it’s the same story. Though we live as a family, we warm our pre-cooked food and eat it alone. No longer do we waste time sitting together to talk and bond while eating together. Machines take the place of family. We seldom see each other as all of us work different hours. Technological advancements have made sure we can work round the clock. No longer do we have the luxury of fixed work hours. We compensate by leaving notes. We call. We mail each other. Weekends are packed with shopping, social events and friends. Most of it is through the internet. And then we are so tired, we just want to get some rest before the alarm wakes us up for the next week.

Often, I feel sad at this impersonal life where people have been replaced by the cyber world. Where people are cut off from others eventually become emotional and uncommunicative wrecks and are uncomfortable with each other. Where people no longer matter but machines do.

Are in interested in the newest software developments in business and the corporate world - the you can click here for human rescoure software and get the best of what business technology can offer. And this is just an example of how we evolved to maintain a better use of technology. Software innovations like the one just mentioned are not rare and deliver performance that we desire. But along with software, other technological improvements keep piling. And such a breakthrough was recently achieved by the physicists in Princeton University - they finally proved that Aladdin and his flying carpet are not conceptual - a person can actually use such as device called a flying carpet.

Scientists from the Princeton University have close examined the mechanism of the skate fish as a basis for the development of the so called flying carpet. The animal moves in water thanks to the movement if its solid spread mass - this allows the creature to use the water sockets that form within its skin and thus push itself forward using the kinetic energy of the water. This is how scientists came across the idea of creating a similar technological concept to be applied in a device flying in the air.

As shown on the blurry image above (no official photos have been presented by the University above), the device is a regular shape, 4 cm long plastic board. However, this plastic board itself is extremely flexible and using an electrical current movement, it forms air sockets within its surface. The electrical power moves the air sockets in the frequency of an air wave which allows the carpet to basically ’ride'the artificially created air flow from its electrical power.

Currently the device’s speed is a centimeter per second but scientists claim it can be upgraded in terms of design and hardware so that greater speed can be achieved. If successful, the device can be used for flying missions on Mars since it would me more useful in avoiding unfriendly terrain obstacles.

Do you remember the times when portable gaming was something of a fiction? Well, I Do. Then the first portable Nintendos came along but it was the 1st generation Gameboy that allowed us to experience a complete gaming. Nevertheless, nowadays portable gaming is just as common among youngsters as console and PC gaming. Some folks even prefer it, simply because it is portable and they can play whenever, wherever they want, no restrictions, well it is always useful when you have a spare battery in your pocket. Today you can choose between the PSP, the iPad, iPod and of course, my personal favourite, the new Nintendo 3DS. The portable game station form Nintendo is so cool that I can hardly speak of it without getting overexcited. The single fact that you can play games in 3D without the need to wear those funny looking glasses is super. Even more, all Nintendo games are super fun and super interesting. You have two screens at your disposal, a camera and what not. Furthermore, the new R4i flash cards makes the new Nintendo even easier to use. You can load all your games and other content on a micro SD card and just use the R4i as an adapter. It is pretty straightforward and the whole operation takes less than 30 seconds. Awesome right?
So what the future is going to be like? Well I can see clearly portable gaming stations with huge processing power, delivering crisp 3D images in stunning colour. I see almost eternal batteries which allow you to play for days, even weeks, without the need to recharge them, I see ergonomic design that adapts to your palms. And maybe in 20 years we will be able to create a virtual reality where we are the character who blast the bad guys, just by using a small, portable device. Can’t wait really.

So looking into the future here at Space Bio, a friend of mine was asking me to imagine a world without online Bingo. “Why?” was my obvious reaction! He explained that it was just a way to realise the value of Bingo, by imagining it wasn’t there. How would we feel? What would we do?

Well, being a selfish sort of soul, I thought about me… and that I’d be out of a job as a Bingo caller, and wouldn’t be able to write about my favourite game! But that aside, I started thinking about the absence of the particular pleasure that the game of Bingo brings to millions of us.

Firstly I think we would miss the game itself. The simple mechanics, the easy-to-learn rules, and the clear format of both online and live Bingo games. There is simply no other game like Bingo. Many other games require much more of a commitment in terms of concentration, time, and even risk. Take the game of poker for example. If you are going to play seriously (in other words you just don’t want to lose your money very quickly!) then you have to prepare for a game. Be in the right state of mind, not be tired or too relaxed, be careful about letting your expression give away your hand. Then you have to gauge the skill of your opponents.. if they are professional, then the likelihood is that they know the best hands, the odds, and will outplay you. Whereas Bingo is a game of luck. You can be a little tired- the auto dabber will mark your cards, is doesn’t matter if you’re having a drink or two, and/or a natter. The numbers will still be called and shown and if you miss a number online- no worries, it’ll be marked for you. We are all equal when we come to a game of Bingo, and each of us stands the same chance of winning!

Secondly I think we’d miss the fun. Yes. You don’t really need me to tell you that the anticipation before a game, the thrill as your numbers begin to get marked, and when you only a need one more for that row… the suspense of seeing if the next number called will clinch a win for you.

Finally, and arguably the most important, is that win or lose (and yes, we all like winning) Bingo players are a great crowd of people. Just dip into the chat rooms, or pop in for a live game and see, hear and feel the buzz. Bingo people are likeable, amiable and fun people! What would they all do and where would they all go if there were no Bingo?

Well, luckily we don’t have to worry. Bingo is here to stay and is growing day by day. A world without Bingo? No! Not on your nelly, or perhaps that should be not on your Kelly’s Eye!

All good things must come to an end, here the end refers to mans control on the machine. Why the melodramatic line on this? We’ve all seen the fantasy movies eg. I am robot. Robots were made to take over the tasks of man and do the things he/she generally regards a waste of time. However talks like these sadden me, the smallest things that we do all add up to being human.
A recent article in the Economist covered the F-35, which is consider the most lethal weapon ever made. The article hinted that the production cost were so high that the next ones might be made to do things on their own. So maybe the case, where’s the proof? Google ’Mantis'by BAE systems, the are still in works of making the first ever unmanned fighter aircraft, it will have its own AI hence it will kill on its on, take off on its on, fly on its own and land on its own.
The better the technological progress, the higher the rate of unemployment. People will need to squander of other things to do as machines will replace us. Yes you may this is just an article on a blog but consider these facts. Lets think of the manpower itself. We had the accountants manually do that math at offices, now we have computers, we had workers sewing clothes together, now we have gignormous machines to do exactly that. It’s not necessarily all bad but i’d never give up my driving to an automated machine.

Fourth generation (4G) phones have been on the market for a while now with the iPhone 4 leading the charge. However with mobile roaming and digital use increasing at an exponential rate, questions are starting to be asked over what impact this new technology will have.

The BBC recently covered a report by Ofcom which is concerned that mobile phone signals will interfere with digital tv in some areas of Britain. With the 4G spectrum sitting directly next to that of terrestrial digital tv channels, it is highly likely that cross interference could occur and on a regular basis as the 4G market continues to grow.

An auction for the 800Mhz band is due to take place next year with 4G expected to have a nationwide rollout soon after. When this happens the risk of interference becomes every more a likelihood. Providers are convinced though that they can filter out any interference that may occur and many are willing to contribute to educational material for their customers in order to make people aware of the potential problem before it even becomes an issue.

The latest generation of Smartphones will soon be usurped by another and by the time 4G has rolled out across the nation, it is possible that a fifth generation of mobile technology will have already hit the market. Indeed there are more then rumours coming from Apple HQ that an iPhone 5 is imminent. Knowing Apple as we do though, they may already have an iPhone 5 ready to go. The only question is whether or not the spectrum to accommodate it will be available.
