Electrical Resistance – Unwanted Wastage Of Precious Power

Electrical Resistance – Unwanted Wastage Of Precious Power

If mankind wishes to explore outer space and set up colonies in other planets, it will have to utilize the power of electricity in an efficient manner. Solar cells use the light of the sun to generate electricity. This electricity is transmitted to batteries through wires. The power stored in the batteries are transmitted to devices through wires.

Each and every wire has resistance. A significant percentage of the electricity generated is lost to resistance. Some substances have high resistance while others have low resistance. However, we seem to have taken for granted that a certain amount of electricity generated will be lost to resistance.

If mankind wishes to set up a colony on moon with hospitable ecosystems where astronauts can go on a daily jog wearing newton running shoes and breathing fresh air, it will have to overcome this flaw.

Certain substances lose their resistance at very high or very low temperatures. It is possible to combine such substances with magnetic fields to create resistance free flow of electricity. It is possible to store electricity in these substances in an easy to carry manner with virtually zero resistance loss.

The biggest problem involved here is the cost of such technology and the difficulties of operating at very high or very low temperatures. Science will have to come up with a solution to these issues to facilitate better and efficient use of our most precious source of power-Electricity. Until then, mankind will have no option but to remain stuck on Planet Earth.

The Water Refinery

The Water Refinery

As any other resource, water is limited. The consumption of water increases drastically with the years as both production and population in the world increase with higher rates. Every sort of manufacturing, even the A3 Photocopiers producers, indicates that more water is required to satisfy the demand of products worldwide. The problem with shortage of water already appears in places like Africa and Asia where the deficit of the resources is not only harming for the industry, but causes quite a lot of hardship for ordinary people who suffer from lack of water. This is the reason why in the last several years Japanese scientists have been developing an innovative technology that might turn our lifes to a bit better stance.

The technology uses sea water for an initial resources. The water is being processed by a special chemical reaction that takes away the salt connecting it with other chemical compounds. The substances resulting after the process are heavy and are easy to be separated from the pure water through a step of filtering. The filtered water is then enriched with biological units which purify the sulfur and the carbon dissolved into the sea water. After another process of filtering, the water resembles river water - less carbon, no salt, and very low amount of sulfur.

The technology developed by the Japanese people might turn put to be a milestone in the fight against global warming. If we manage to properly use the sea water, manking might be able to respond to rising sea levels. Scientists include the opportunity for the creation of the so called artificial rivers within deserts and thus enrich territories which lack water resources. </

‘Dongles: Size Isn’t Everything!’

We all know how handy pen drives are, but they can also be a real cause for concern… After all, having a storage device sticking out of your USB port is essentially an accident waiting to happen; especially when it measures in at a good inch or so.

And that is why micro pen drives are such a giant step forwards! They do exactly the same job as ‘traditional’ ones, yet they are so much safer to use. Gone are the days of worrying about passers-by twanging your dongle whilst you are sitting on the train.

Er, so to speak…

How Far Can We Take AI

For those of you who are not aware of AI, it is the common term for artificial intelligence. Now although some humans appear to have a distinct lack of intelligence (based on some of the silly things we tend to do), computers and dare is say it robots, are becoming increasingly intelligent. It boggles the mind to imagine how scientists have managed to configure electronics to do so many functions, simultaneously, in just a split second, but the truth of the matter is that whether we can fully understand it or not, computers are now being designed to problem solve and learn. AI could be used for so many interesting and useful things in the future, from helping as an IT service in London to being a flight attendant across the world.

How would we live without social networks?

In today’s world it is hard to go more than a few hours without hearing or seeing reference to Twitter, Facebook or some other social networking site, as it has now become part of modern culture. What started off as a tool for friends to keep in touch and up to date on what was going on in each others lives has now become so much more than that, and it is hard to see what we would all be doing with our time if we did not have these things to keep us occupied.

‘The Force’ of 3D.

Thirty-five years ago I remember being totally wowed by a gadget I saw in ‘Star Wars’. And if you can recall that scene in the interplanetary bar (with all of the different creatures drinking their beer), then you will probably already know what I am going to say. Yes, the thing that blew me away was the holographic chess game with its animated pieces! Just imagine how cool it would be if you had one of these babies in your front room…

A Beautiful Life

Someone rightly said that the technological developments in the last 50 years have been many times more than the rest of the known civilization put together. I am quite happy to have been born in this age. All these developments have made life so much easier! But then, like all things, this too has a flip side. While I enjoy the ease these developments bring to my life, I miss the personal touch. I miss seeing people, I miss interacting with them, I miss the human touch that seems to be so rare now.

The future of portable gaming

Do you remember the times when portable gaming was something of a fiction? Well, I Do. Then the first portable Nintendos came along but it was the 1st generation Gameboy that allowed us to experience a complete gaming. Nevertheless, nowadays portable gaming is just as common among youngsters as console and PC gaming. Some folks even prefer it, simply because it is portable and they can play whenever, wherever they want, no restrictions, well it is always useful when you have a spare battery in your pocket. Today you can choose between the PSP, the iPad, iPod and of course, my personal favourite, the new Nintendo 3DS. The portable game station form Nintendo is so cool that I can hardly speak of it without getting overexcited. The single fact that you can play games in 3D without the need to wear those funny looking glasses is super. Even more, all Nintendo games are super fun and super interesting. You have two screens at your disposal, a camera and what not. Furthermore, the new R4i flash cards makes the new Nintendo even easier to use. You can load all your games and other content on a micro SD card and just use the R4i as an adapter. It is pretty straightforward and the whole operation takes less than 30 seconds. Awesome right?
So what the future is going to be like? Well I can see clearly portable gaming stations with huge processing power, delivering crisp 3D images in stunning colour. I see almost eternal batteries which allow you to play for days, even weeks, without the need to recharge them, I see ergonomic design that adapts to your palms. And maybe in 20 years we will be able to create a virtual reality where we are the character who blast the bad guys, just by using a small, portable device. Can’t wait really.

Manning the unmanned

Manning the unmanned

All good things must come to an end, here the end refers to mans control on the machine. Why the melodramatic line on this? We’ve all seen the fantasy movies eg. I am robot. Robots were made to take over the tasks of man and do the things he/she generally regards a waste of time. However talks like these sadden me, the smallest things that we do all add up to being human.
A recent article in the Economist covered the F-35, which is consider the most lethal weapon ever made. The article hinted that the production cost were so high that the next ones might be made to do things on their own. So maybe the case, where’s the proof? Google ’Mantis'by BAE systems, the are still in works of making the first ever unmanned fighter aircraft, it will have its own AI hence it will kill on its on, take off on its on, fly on its own and land on its own.
The better the technological progress, the higher the rate of unemployment. People will need to squander of other things to do as machines will replace us. Yes you may this is just an article on a blog but consider these facts. Lets think of the manpower itself. We had the accountants manually do that math at offices, now we have computers, we had workers sewing clothes together, now we have gignormous machines to do exactly that. It’s not necessarily all bad but i’d never give up my driving to an automated machine.

4th to 5th Generation Incoming

Fourth generation (4G) phones have been on the market for a while now with the iPhone 4 leading the charge. However with mobile roaming and digital use increasing at an exponential rate, questions are starting to be asked over what impact this new technology will have.

The BBC recently covered a report by Ofcom which is concerned that mobile phone signals will interfere with digital tv in some areas of Britain. With the 4G spectrum sitting directly next to that of terrestrial digital tv channels, it is highly likely that cross interference could occur and on a regular basis as the 4G market continues to grow.

An auction for the 800Mhz band is due to take place next year with 4G expected to have a nationwide rollout soon after. When this happens the risk of interference becomes every more a likelihood. Providers are convinced though that they can filter out any interference that may occur and many are willing to contribute to educational material for their customers in order to make people aware of the potential problem before it even becomes an issue.

The latest generation of Smartphones will soon be usurped by another and by the time 4G has rolled out across the nation, it is possible that a fifth generation of mobile technology will have already hit the market. Indeed there are more then rumours coming from Apple HQ that an iPhone 5 is imminent. Knowing Apple as we do though, they may already have an iPhone 5 ready to go. It is now possible to buy smartphones, including iPhones, using cryptocurrencies. This digital currency has gained worldwide acceptance these days. Many people have started trading cryptocurrencies as a way to make a profit. If you are considering trading crypto, be sure to check out the cryptocurrency trading guide to get an idea of how to get started with cryptocurrency trading. The only question is whether or not the spectrum to accommodate it will be available.
